Cutting Through Confusion to Achieve Meaningful Change
We couldn't use a better introduction to this part of the Workplace Section than to repeat the first paragraph of the first article on the right, written by Jamie Walters, whose articles provide the bulk of material for The Workplace Section.
"There have been discussions about organizational change for decades nowabout whether and why it's necessary, and how to go about it. Yet despite all of the work in management schools and consulting firms, despite the multitude of how-to, why-to and what-to books, I sometimes wonder whether we've made any progress at all. In fact, on some days, I wonder whether many of the approaches and efforts have taken us backwards. This is one reason why I and many others continue to ask the question: Is meaningful change possible in many organizations?"
That question is explored every day by millions of people who want to make a change in their personal lives. Of course, it's not easy or the world would be a vastly better place, but many have demonstrated that it IS possible. And just as it's possible for individuals, it is possible, with the right help, for organizations as well.
These articles explore the many ways you can contribute to meaningful change at work. And even if the change you make does not seem as significant as you would like, remember that to the extent you can make a positive change in your work environment and in the direction your organization is taking, to that extent you will have made a difference in the world. |
