The developmental task of all new babies is to trust that the world will support them, to know they are welcome in the family, and to learn that simply "being" in the world is important. Babies learn this when their caregivers bond with them emotionally, meet their physical needs and gently nurture them with touch and loving care.
If your caregivers didn't know how to give you the nurturance and guidance you needed as an infant, it isn't too late to know you have a right to claim your place in the world.
If you are a parent or parent-to-be, it's good to be reminded that each stage of growth requires different words, different affirmations, in order for children to achieve one set of skills and move on to the next.
Listen to an excerpt from the CD of "Words of Encouragement Everyone Needs" and take in these messages that start children on the path to becoming resourceful, resilient, and compassionate adults.
NOTE: You may find that closing your eyes while you listen will increase the impact of the words.
