Coping in Today's World
Creating Peace in Hearts and Homes
BY Arlene Harder, MA, MFT
Articles with concrete suggestions for dealing with all the stress and craziness in the world today.
The idea for this section began a few days before the beginning of the current Iraqi war when I was contacted by a reporter. She asked what words of wisdom I might have for readers who were feeling anxious and asked me how people can find solace in times like these.
I emailed her some ideas and then we talked for almost an hour as we shared thoughts about the climate of the times. This made me realize that people might enjoy some concrete suggestions for dealing with all the craziness that's going around these days.
I've subtitled this section "Creating peace in hearts and homes" because I firmly believe that we must create a climate for peace within ourselves before we can effectively build a peaceful world, as reflected in the following.
If there is peace in the heart, there will be peace in the home.
If there is peace in the home, there will be peace in the community.
If there is peace in the community, there will be peace in the city.
If there is peace in the city, there will be peace in the nation.
If there is peace in the nation, there will be peace in the world.
Let there be peace, and let it begin with me. |
