Visual Viewpoints

Photographs always show different "viewpoints," based on where the photographer was standing and the subject he or she chose. And that's why you can tell something about a person by the pictures he or she takes. Don't know what, exactly, my pictures say about me, but they offer you a glimpse into the kinds of things I am interested in capturing on film (well, on tiny digital memory cards anyway).

If you'd like, you can submit photos for any of the categories I've chosen to display so far. Or you can suggest a new visual viewpoint category.

The Big Five (Minus One)

As I put these online for the newsletter on April 22, 2008, there's not time for an explanation of why I only have four of the Big Five — elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion, and leopard. And there certainly isn't time for a comment on the safari we took in December, which will be in the form of a report on the blog.

Until I find the time for my comments on Kenya, however, I hope these pictures will whet your appetite for your own trip to Africa. There is nothing like actually being there and seeing animals in their natural environment to know a zoo is a pale comparison.

This lion and lioness were settling down for a nice afternoon snooze.

These rhinos looked unthreatening enough when they were resting, but later three of them threatened our jeep and we made a judicious retreat.

From our balcony in the inn looking toward Mt. Kenya we were treated to these buffalo, as well as many of animals.

You don't mess with this guy. When he wants to take the road, he takes it.
