Playing With Colors
BY ARLENE HARDER, MA, MFT
Today our Take-a-Break suggestion is very easy and fun. However, it does require you to read all the instructions before you begin because the first instruction will tell you to close your eyes.
Close your eyes and think of your favorite color.
Don't be concerned if you don't really "see" any colors or if the colors aren't as bright as the outer world. That's as it should be. We need some protection in our inner world from the bombardment on our senses in the outer world. Nevertheless, our inner landscape reflects (to one degree or another, depending on the person) the senses we experience when our eyes are open.
Imagine as many things of that color as you can.
Next, imagine how the world would look if there were only that color. For example, my favorite color is blue, but I can't quite imagine eating a blue apple.
Notice what happens when you then add one color to the monochromatic image.
When you open your eyes, look around and find your favorite color.
Notice if you would like to have more of that color in your surroundings, or does the amount of that color create just the accent you need — and any more would be too much of a good thing.
