Affirmations for Self-respect and Self-control
A GUIDED IMAGERY SCRIPT
BY ARLENE HARDER, MA, MFT
This guided imagery exercise allows you to develop a healthy ego with which you can become a strong, loving, valuable, contributing member of society.
There are important concepts of self-respect and self-control we all need to have as part of our toolkit of inner resources. These concepts grow out of affirmations that are best learned as we move through stages of growth before we reach adulthood.
However, if we were not given these affirmations when we were young, or were not able to fully absorb their meaning, we may not realize the importance of these statements when wanting to be the best we can be. That is why it is well to be reminded of them.
Therefore, if you would like to learn — to review — these messages, it is not too late. You can grow up again, so to speak, by noticing the affirmations you most need at this time.
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT THROUGH THE YEARS
Affirmations for Everyone is a four-minute presentation of how affirmations appropriate to each period of growth is the best way to navigate developmental cycles.
As you examine the legacy given to you by your parents and grandparents, you may discover strengths you underestimated. You may also realize you didn't hear important affirmations you would benefit from today. But it's never too late to learn what you may have missed.

In 2008 I finished work on a CD that takes you through the stages of development and gives you an opportunity to grow up again with the affirmations you need to be the person who want to be. It has been very effective for many people. You can listen to a segment at Words of Encouragement Everyone Needs.
